Root Canal Therapy, also known as endodontic treatment, is a procedure designed to save a tooth that has a damaged or infected pulp (the innermost part of the tooth). This often occurs due to severe decay, deep cavities, or trauma.
The Root Canal Procedure
Our experienced dentists use advanced diagnostic tools to assess the condition of your tooth and determine if root canal therapy is necessary.
Before the procedure begins, the area around the affected tooth is numbed with local anesthesia to ensure your comfort throughout the process.
A small opening is made in the tooth to access the infected or damaged pulp. The infected tissue is then carefully removed, and the interior of the tooth is cleaned and disinfected.
Once the tooth is thoroughly cleaned, it is sealed with a biocompatible material to prevent future infections. In most cases, a dental crown is placed over the treated tooth to restore its strength and functionality.
Signs You May Need Root Canal Therapy:
- Severe Toothache: Persistent and intense pain, especially when chewing or applying pressure.
- Prolonged Sensitivity: Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures, even after the stimuli is removed.
- Swelling and Tenderness: Swelling or tenderness in the gums near a specific tooth.
- Darkening of the Tooth: Discoloration of a tooth, indicating potential damage t the pulp.
